Found The Shadowhunter's Codex in Waterstones for £8 while checking to see if they had any Be More Chill books in stock - don't know much about the series outside of that it apparently had a TV show and a (cancelled) movie or something, but I'm only about 12 pages in roughly and I'm enjoying the information and the tiny notes from the characters. I know there's a main story series that I've heard is good, so I might look into that if I like this book enough.

i'm not trying to defend Clare or anythign but WHAT IF, the version of the Shsdowhunters' Codex we get to read is the English version, and there are different versions in different countries, and the names in each books are different? i mean, it's impossible that all shadowhunters from ALL OVER THE WORLD can all speak English?

It’s impossible they all speak English…except they clearly do, since Idris seems to be pretty uniformly English-speaking, and the Institute Shadowhunters appear to be coming to Idris regularly (any Council gathering and events like the evacuation in COHF, for sintance), so I doubt they don’t impose English as lingua franca.

That said…the Codex has been out long enough that it would be translated in other languages. Has anyone read it in a language that wasn’t English? I’m too lazy to look for it myself. Especially since I highly doubt they’ll translate that list.

Reasons why the Shadowhunter’s Codex is cool

I slightly regret showing you guys the Shadowhunter’s Codex

...but not really...

Anyway, if you guys haven’t bought it you really should. 

Throughout it are pictures that Clary “drew” in the book

and her, Simon, and Jace all wrote in it 

and there are so many puns and jokes 

but it’s also so helpful in writing fanfics because then you can get facts straights and what not.

I think the anon means that rivers usually go from North to South, not from South (lake lyn (sorry don't know the name)) to North. At least that's what my geography book tells me, but I'm not sure why lol.

I sincerely doubt that’s universally true, and will use the Nile as my counter-example. Rivers flow from highest point to lowest (because gravity). Maybe some textbooks (I assume American?) simplify it as North to South because it’s true there specifically but it’s by no means a universal truth.
